Apple is finally expected to enter the foldable phone market. Here’s everything we know from recent leaks, analyst notes, and insider reports.
Launch Date
The iPhone fold is expected to launch in late 2026, probably alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max lineup in September continuing the company’s usual fall release cycle.
Supply chain or design hurdles may push production toward early 2027, so there could be a slight delay
Book-Style Foldable
Apple’s foldable is rumored to use a book-style design – similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold and it would be square shape when unfolded. It folds inward like a small tablet when open, and like a compact phone when closed
Display
Leakers and analysts agree that the iPhone Fold will likely feature:
- Folded display: 5.3 – 5.5 inches
- Unfolded display: 7.6 – 7.8 inches
Both are expected to use OLED panels, with Apple pushing for a smooth, nearly crease-free foldable screen which is one of the biggest problems in current foldables.

Hinge & Build Quality
Apple is reportedly exploring premium materials for the Fold:
- Titanium + aluminium frame for durability and lightweight feel
- Liquid metal hinge that could be more durable and reduce screen stress
- Innovations aimed at minimizing the visible crease
Performance
The iPhone Fold is expected to pack Apple’s next-gen A20 Pro chip, the same powerful chipset tipped for the iPhone 18 Pro phones. It could be built using TSMC’s 2nm process for improved performance and efficiency.
We may also see improved modem tech and high-speed connectivity thanks to Apple’s own C2 modem.
Battery
Latest leaks claim Apple could equip the Fold with a larger battery than the iPhone 17 Pro Max, possibly between 5,400-5,800 mAh.
Camera
There’s debate over the exact camera setup: some leaks suggest a hole-punch selfie camera outside and an under screen camera inside, and it may skip Face ID in favor of Touch ID to save internal space. The shift to Touch ID (likely via the side button) could be a practical choice to save internal space and focus on design just like the iPhone Air.
Rumors point to:
- Dual 48 MP rear cameras
- 18 MP front cameras
- Touch ID instead of Face ID
Expected Price
The iPhone Fold is expected to be very premium, with leaked pricing estimates ranging from $1,800 to $2,300+ potentially making it one of the most expensive iPhones ever.
Even with many leaks, several key details remain unclear such as final design and crease visibility. All details should be taken as well-sourced rumors, not certainties.
