iPad 12th Generation 2026 A19 SOC – Rumors, Leaks & Everything We Know So Far

Apple is preparing to launch the 12th generation iPad in spring 2026, expected launch month is either March or April. If you are planning to buy an iPad, this could be a value for money option. Here is everything the 2026 iPad might bring.

iPad 12th Gen 2026 Rumored Specs

Display and Design

The design of the iPad 12 is expected to remain unchanged. The usual iPad look with 11″ liquid retina LCD display, flat edges and touch ID on the power button.

But one improvement many users including myself were hoping for is the higher refresh rate, but It doesn’t look like Apple want to ditch the 60Hz panel for the budget series. I have an iPad A16, and 60 Hz is good, really smooth, nothing like Android’s 60Hz, but it could be better with 90Hz or 120Hz. As usual, ProMotion remains exclusive to the Pro ipads.

Performance Upgrades

According to a new report, the iPad 12th Gen is likely to be powered by the latest A series chip, alongside a new iPad Air equipped with the M4. A base iPad with the codenames J581 and J582 is listed as being powered by the A19 chip, the same processor used in the iPhone 17 lineup. If accurate, this would represent a major performance upgrade for the iPad 12th Gen.

At the very least, the device is expected to ship with the A18, marking a notable step up from the current generation. A18 is very capable and that means smoother multitasking, more power for gamers, animators and video editors and it is likely to be equipped with 8GB of RAM to make it compatible for Apple intelligence (Apple’s AI features)

Camera and Storage

Expect no changes at all in cameras, it will likely be the same as the 11th gen, 12MP front and 12MP back sensor which is enough for videocalls and casual use. The base storage is going to be the same 128GB like the 11th gen.

Connectivity Improvements

Rumors hint at improved connectivity, possibly Apple will integrate Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 and other smart device compatibility. Apple likely to add their in house networking chip called N1 (the same chip already introduced in the latest iPhone and iPad Pro models). N1 doesn’t just support Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, it also integrates support for smart home devices and IoT communication standard. This could make the iPad a hub for smart accessories and home automation.

For the cellular model, rumors suggest the use of Apple’s modem for 5G/LTE network.

iPad OS Support

With A18 chip and 8GB RAM, the 12th gen is more futureproof. Naturally it should get many years of software updates. It will likely support several Apple Intelligent features and remain capable for productivity and creative work.

Who should wait for the 12th gen iPad?

If you want a tablet that comes with many years of software support with future proof hardware, best performance under the standard iPad price (most likely $349), best note taking, reading, creative apps like Procreate, animation tool and video editing and multitasking, then you should definitely wait for it.

The iPad 12 gen will deliver a smooth performance and long term support at a price much lower than the Air. Most people invest in the standard iPad as a buy once use for years device (mostly students). So the 12th gen standard iPad would be the perfect choice if you want that too.

Apple has not officially announced the 12th generation iPad yet, so the final design, specs, pricing, and launch timeline may change by the time it is revealed.
