Kindle With Or Without Ads (2025) – Comparison, Price & How To Remove Ads

Kindle with or without ads

When you have questions in your mind such as – Are Kindle ads annoying, What would be better with ads vs without ads? I hope this article finds you. Because, in this article I have explained everything about Kindle with or without ads

What are Kindle ads?

Kindle ads are sponsored  images/ content on the lock screen and home screen and you can save $20-25 if you get a Kindle with ads. You also get the option to remove ads later if you don’t want ads by paying the same price.

Apart form showing ads there is no difference between a Kindle with ads or without ads. It’s the same hardware and software.

Are Kindle ads annoying?

Honestly, the ads only appear on lock screen and home screen and not while you read a book. Once you open a book, they disappear so they won’t interrupt you. Personally I feel they are not that annoying.

But if you prefer a clean and distraction free device you can get the Kindle without ads version or remove ads later. They may sometime show you irrelevant ads.

Does ads affect reading experience, battery life or performance?

In both versions, apart from the ads every thing remains the same. Reading is unaffected, ads don’t appear while reading, there is little to no impact on battery life because of ads, the reason is on e-ink screens displaying a static image ad doesn’t really take much power. The same with performance.

Real Users take

Many Kindle users including myself say ads don’t bother them, and they continue using the Kindle without regret. ads are mostly ignorable. Some people buy the cheaper Kindle (with ads) when budget is tight, and then later pay to remove ads whenever they want. I still have mine with ads and I am okay with it.

Its just a choice

It ultimately comes down to personal preference. If you are okay dismissing an ad screen ocasionaly then savings can be worth it. If you want the cover of the book you are reading get the ad free version.

Which version should you choose?

Use CaseRecommended Version
Budget Focused, casual readersWith ads, saves money
Frequent reader, minimalistWithout ads, clean experience
If you are unsureStart with ads, you can change later
If it’s a gift for someoneWithout ads (a gift looks good without ads)

How to remove ads on Kindle?

If you currently own a Kindle with ads, you can pay a one time fee to turn off ads. – here is how you can do that –

  • Go to Amazon.com and login with the account that is linked to your Kindle.
  • Go to Accounts & Lists > Content & Device
  • Click Devices tab
  • Select your Kindle from the list
  • Click remove special offers
  • A pop up will display the removal cost (around $20)
  • Confirm the payment and ads will be removed

You don’t need to do anything on your Kindle. Ads will disappear when you connect to the Wi-Fi and sync

Can I remove Kindle ads for free?

Amazon customer service used to disable ads for free if you requested politely and say that the Kindle is used by a Kid and you don’t want inappropriate ads. This worked for many users, but now chances are very low.

Conclusion

Kindle with ads is a better value in my opinion. The ads hardly bother me. But  not everyone is looking for a budget friendly option, some may value clean ad free user experience so it depends on user’s priorities. I hope this was helpful. Feel free to leave your questions below.
